A few years ago, we were a holding centre for a national animal charity. We housed cats and small animals until spaces could be found for them at the main centre.

The main centre was then refurbished and a great many units were constructed. We were needed less and less so we decided to hand the 4-unit cattery back to them.

The very next day, we were approached by a lady who was concerned about a cat which had set up home in her greenhouse. No other centre was able to help. We told her that we no longer took in cats but it was now a desperate situation, so we took her. Smudge was a black and white female with a bit of fight in her. We advertised her and a lovely couple from Minehead came out to see her and even though Smudge scratched Pam, they decided they would give her a go. Smudge has never looked back and to date is a happy cat.

We have virtually not been empty since. Four units increased to six. Six units increased to 9 and then we built the enclosure for the cats who had problems.

We now have 11 units and a 60ft x 25ft enclosure. The spare room doubles as an isolation area and storage area.

We set ourselves a limit of 12 cats for the enclosure, but needless to say that over the years those numbers have gone up and down; mainly up!

All the individual pens have 10ft outside runs with chairs for the cats to sit on in the sun. They have heaters and beds.
